Lisa Cohen is a speaker on various platforms. Since 1996, she has been sharing her inspiring story to educate, motivate, and advocate for change. Lisa's journey began as a panelist for the Consortium of Child Welfare in 1992, where she played a crucial role in training and supporting foster mothers entering the system. Having experienced over 13 different placements and endured abuse, neglect, and trauma, Lisa's personal experiences have driven her to become a strong advocate for foster youth.

With a storied career that began in the United States Navy, Lisa has shown exceptional versatility. She has owned businesses, like the Toofierce Boxing and Fitness gym, and has served in significant roles, including Secretary for the Washington DC Chamber of Commerce and campaign chair. Her leadership and entrepreneurial skills are further reflected in her presidency of the Rotary Club of Washington DC.

Military Service

Lisa Cohen is a Navy veteran who served in the United States Navy from April 1989 to November 1991. She underwent Boot Camp in Orlando, Florida and was stationed on board the USS Samuel Gompers and While serving as an apprentice engineer, Lisa worked as an IC (Interior Communications) Seaman in the electrical department. She was stationed at the USA Air Station Alameda in Alameda, California, and lived off base in Marin County at Hamilton Air Force Base. During her deployment on a Westpac in 1990, she traveled to Hong Kong, Korea, Japan (Sasebo and Yokosuka), the Philippines, and Hawaii. Lisa's role as an ion engineer involved learning the trade of an electrician for interior communication systems on board the ship as well as ship-to-ship connections. After her honorable discharge from the Navy, she moved back to Washington DC and lived in Tacoma Park with her husband, Gerald Foster, to start her family.

She successfully graduated from the University of the District of Columbia with an undergraduate degree in English, demonstrating her intellectual prowess and commitment to education. Building upon her academic achievements, Lisa later pursued a law degree at American University's Washington College of Law, further expanding her knowledge and expertise.
